Barkz

Barkz - the dog stop is a family-owned Kirkland business that provides retail and services for dogs and their owners.
We wanted to create a place where both dogs and their owners felt welcome. A place where owners can find durable top-quality products and food, while dogs can find exercise, affection, and friends to play with. We also wanted to work with dogs and their owners to foster understanding and better behavior.
We felt there was a gap in dogs’ lives. Dogs are very social and physical animals. They need exercise and play-time to feel healthy, behave well, and feel happy. Our off-leash play area helps make that a reality.
Barkz is a member of the Association of Professional Dog Trainers.
The Green Approach
We are always striving to be more Green through our recycling and purchasing practices. Here are ways that we are trying to decrease our footprint:
- Bring your Barkz bag back for your next purchase and receive 10 cents off your next purchase.
- Within our office and store we recycle paper for all our printing needs we are hoping to be paperless within the next year.
- All packaging peanuts are reused and/or given back to UPS.
- We continue to work with our distributors to reuse the boxes they send us products in.
Our Products
- We sell biodegradeable poop bags in small and large sizes that biodegrade in 10-45 days.
- The majority of our beds are 100% eco-friendly, made with non-toxic fabrics and filled with an all eco-friendly fiber. We have toys made from recycled material and when the dog is finally finished with it the remains can be sent back to the manufacturer.
- We will continue to do our best to decrease our global footprint.
Our Staff
Tori, Luca & Marciello
Chief Product Testers
Tori and Luca are much-loved black labradors who enjoy non-stop play with their cousin Marciello. They are the resident dogs at Barkz (Kirkland) and test all the products for durability and enjoyment.
Kaitlyn Myall
CEO
Growing up around dogs Kaitlyn’s love of animals started early. Having a dog with extensive health problems she’s done a substantial amount of research before ever becoming involved with Barkz. Over the years she’s interned with Vet Hospitals and throughout her education done extensive research projects on Dog Genetics. Kaitlyn became acquainted with Barkz first as a customer and then as an owner. Barkz’s mission and purpose closely melds with her own beliefs and love of animals. She has two black labs herself that are often with her at the store.
Paula Heddle
Founder

As a dog-loving entrepreneur, Paula started Barkz to provide dogs and their owners with novel retail products that offer unparalleled durability and aesthetics. After running Barkz for 3 years, she decided to change her focus to take care of her two twin girls. She is thrilled to have found a kindred spirit in Kaitlyn, and is glad that the store found a new caring owner.
Barkz Philanthropic Strategy
Our family at Barkz is strongly supportive to the community in which we live through personal and corporate donations, volunteer time and auction items. We believe it is important to support our local community in which we reside.
If you have a request for donations for a non-profit organization within Kirkland, please email us a letter on your letterhead detailing your organization, how it benefits the community, and exactly what you are looking for from Barkz. Please submit this letter a minimum of 3 months prior to the event for review. Barkz is a small independent family-owned company and we are unable to support all great organizations. We wish you the very best in your endeavors.
